Travel blogger Stephanie Yoder faced alleged threats and demands for censorship from WorldVentures after publishing a critical review of the company on her "Twenty-something Travel" blog. The dispute centers on Yoder's July 2013 account of a recruitment pitch she received at a coworking event.

Yoder attended a DC Night Owls coworking event with a colleague, Michael. A man approached them, expressing excitement about their shared interest in working while traveling. He then presented his business, WorldVentures, using a slideshow of generic travel photos.

The pitch involved an online travel club offering discounted packages for a $199 fee and $54.95 monthly. The presenter claimed the "real money" came from becoming an associate and recruiting others. Yoder's colleague interrupted the presentation when the pay structure, which appeared to be a pyramid, was displayed. They stated they had no interest in the scheme.

Yoder's review, titled "WorldVentures: This is NOT the Way to Travel the World," quickly became the most visited article on her blog. It drew a high volume of comments, described as "passionate arguments" from both pro- and anti-WorldVentures perspectives.

By late 2013, the influx of comments led Yoder to first stop responding, then disable the comments entirely two weeks later. Online searches for "WorldVentures" typically display the company's official website first, followed by a corporate marketing site, with Yoder's critical review often appearing as the third result.
