Paymony affiliates are circulating promotional material claiming actor Will Smith has joined their scheme. A promotion on the "Unitel Association" website, titled "Will Smith in Paymony in mind and heart," features a photo of Smith with several unidentified men. The image, while out of focus, appears genuine, though its connection to Paymony remains unverified.
The photograph itself has no discernible link to Paymony's operations. Despite this, the accompanying text encourages "miners" to call, asserting that "Will Smith is in Paymony." This marketing tactic relies on the apparent deception of using a celebrity image in an unrelated context.
Unitel National Association of Promoters in Multilevel Marketing Companies, founded in April 2012, describes itself as a non-profit organization in Brazil. It states its vision is to "generate employment, income, dignity," and to "share victories and success with every citizen who acts with direct sales and MLM in Brazil." However, the association's website prominently features advertisements for known fraudulent schemes, including TelexFree.
Paymony operates as a Ponzi scheme. It solicits investments of up to $15,000 for purported "digital currency mining packages." These packages are a front, as the scheme does not involve actual digital currency mining. The "miners" referenced in the Will Smith advertisement are Paymony's affiliates, recruited to perpetuate the financial fraud.
