Unicity International launched in 2001, formed from the merger of Rexall Showcase and Enrich International. Both companies had previously been acquired by Royal Numico, a nutritional product subsidiary of Groupe Danone. Stewart Hughes, a former Rexall distributor, now leads Unicity as CEO.

Royal Numico attempted to sell Unicity to Activated Holdings, parent company of Shaklee, in 2003. This effort failed. Numico then sold Unicity to two of the company's executive management members. Following the sale, management renamed Unicity Network to Unicity International.

Rexall Showcase faced regulatory scrutiny before its merger into Unicity. This began in 1994 with a racketeering complaint filed in Federal Court, Southern District of Florida, Miami, under case # 93-6534. A Florida newspaper, the Daily Business Review, detailed the 180-page civil racketeering complaint on March 3, 1995. It described the document as "replete with anti-Semitic, invective and even a death threat."

Separately, one of RSI's top sales personnel, who oversaw nearly $100 million in annual downline sales, was permanently barred from the New York Stock Exchange. NYSE Docket/Case # 91-101 recorded the action. He had prior connections to a drug money laundering operation.

Rexall Showcase's legal troubles continued into the 2000s. In 2006, Matthais Rath, credited with developing Rexall Showcase products, asked the US and Florida Attorney-Generals to investigate Rexall's business practices. Rexall tried to silence Rath by seeking an injunction. The company wanted to prevent him from explaining his departure reasons. RSI lost its first attempt in the Superior Court of California, San Mateo County, on August 23, 1996.

RSI pursued another injunction effort in Florida. The Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County scheduled a hearing for September 18, 1996, at 5 p.m. It took place in Courtroom 11D of the Palm Beach Courthouse in West Palm Beach. Dr. Rath stated at the time, "I believe the aim of RSI and Rexall is to put my company out of business while still continuing to make huge profits from selling the products we developed and continuing to use my name and reputation."
