Tupperware’s operations in Belgium have officially collapsed.

As
reported by HLN on January 13th
, Tupperware’s US executives have given the go ahead for bankruptcy proceedings.

Tupperware’s Belgium bankruptcy proceedings follows closure of a local factory in Aalst few months ago. Up until bankruptcy approval, Tupperware had not issued a public statement regarding the closure.

[US executives] have now given the green light to dismantle the Belgian branches.

No dates are yet known about the further steps in the bankruptcy. But the works council today gives its approval to ask the court to appoint a curator.

The amount raised will be used to pay the severance payments of the 270 workers.

Some of Tupperware’s Belgian staff are reported to have worked at the factory “for decades”.

A smaller Tupperware division within Belgium, Tupperware General Services”, is also shuttered.

For the staff of Tupperware General Services … the situation is even worse. The chance that they will all receive a full severance payment is slim. This was reported by the news agency ‘Belga’ from union sources.

Tupperware General Services is reported to have around fifty employees.

Tupperware
filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US
in September 2024.

In October 2024, Tupperware was
sold off to a group of hedge funds
known for cost-cutting and maximizing profits.

Update 20th January 2025 –
Tupperware has also collapsed in Germany and Sweden.

As
reported by Business AM
on January 17th;

The end has come for Tupperware in Germany.

Despite attempts by management and CEO Laurie Ann Goldman to negotiate new licensing agreements with the American parent company, this has not been successful.

As
reported by Sweden Herald
last month;

American Tupperware, known for its plastic kitchenware, is leaving Sweden and Europe. The license will not be renewed, the company announces.

Tupperware pulling out of Europe is coming off as messy. The exact nature of what’s happening could be resolved with Tupperware in the US issuing a statement, but to the best of my knowledge that hasn’t happened.
