Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has appeared in a Cameo video endorsing the Hyperverse, a virtual world platform. The video, costing $5000, was shared by Steven Reece Lewis, the newly appointed CEO of HyperTech, Hyperverse’s parent company. This follows a similar endorsement from actor Chuck Norris.
Wozniak’s message, delivered on Twitter via Steven Reece Lewis, invited viewers to "reimagine a virtual world open for exploration in any way you choose." He mentioned being a "galaxy pioneer," engaging in "intergalactic explorations," and collecting "exclusive in-world NFTs." Wozniak stated on his Cameo profile that he uses the platform for charity.
The timing of these celebrity endorsements appears strategic. Evidence suggests that withdrawal failures within the Hyperverse, which began in late November, were still occurring as of January 3rd. The company has not publicly addressed these issues. Instead, HyperTech’s CEO, Steven Lewis, has focused on distributing Cameo videos on social media. Owners Ryan Xu and Sam Lee remain out of public view.
Lewis, also known as Steve Harrison, was appointed Boris CEO of HyperTech earlier this year. His role appears to involve managing public relations for the struggling Hyperverse. This comes after a series of regulatory actions against related entities. In 2022, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) banned HyperTech founder Sam Lee from managing corporations for ten years. Lee was also charged by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2023 for fraud related to HyperTech and HyperVerse.
