South African police are hunting two men who can help solve the murders of four people shot dead in a Cape Town home last May, including Bulgarian businessman Krasimir Kamenov.

The Western Cape Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit released photographs on March 9th asking the public to identify the suspects. Six people fled the Constantia shooting on May 25, 2023 in a blue Hyundai and white VW Golf GTI. Hours later, two men were spotted driving the Golf GTI and a white VW Passat under a bridge on the N1. Police believe these two men hold crucial information about the killings.

Kamenov, his wife, and two others died in the attack. The Bulgarian national was wanted on an Interpol red notice at the time of his death. Intelligence suggests he had recently given evidence to foreign authorities about major international criminal cases in the preceding six months.

The timing is significant. Kamenov was under investigation by Bulgaria's Attorney General's Office, then headed by Ivan Geshev, over the murder of Lyubomir Ivanov. When Ivanov died, investigators found documents in his safe connecting to the alleged 2018 murder of OneCoin founder Ruja Ignatova. According to those documents, Ignatova was killed on orders from Christophoros Amanatidis-Taki, a notorious Bulgarian organized crime figure based in Dubai and a long-time associate of Kamenov.

The Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office intensified its push against Kamenov after learning he was cooperating with international authorities. While unconfirmed by South African, US, and Bulgarian officials, evidence suggests at least some of the cases Kamenov assisted with involved OneCoin—the notorious cryptocurrency scheme.

The pressure spread beyond Kamenov. The Geshev-led Bulgarian Public Prosecutor's Office harassed journalists covering OneCoin corruption. Taki filed six defamation suits against Bulgarian reporters investigating the Ignatova murder plot through a proxy.

In April 2023, an assassination attempt against Geshev himself was reportedly staged. That June, Bulgaria's Supreme Judicial Council voted to dismiss Geshev from his post.

Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to contact Lt Col Dean Kiewiets at the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit or Crime Stop. The case remains open as police seek answers in what appears to be a targeted killing tied to one of the world's largest fraud schemes.
