A federal receiver has won default judgments against dozens of Canadians who pocketed hundreds of thousands of dollars from Zeek Rewards victims, according to court filings obtained this week.

Eight defendants ignored a December deadline to respond to clawback lawsuits filed in early November. On December 18th, the receiver filed motions for default judgment against Catherine Parker ($179,656.05), Leon Killam ($108,690.96), Yong Sheng Wang ($88,579.96), Brian Fussey ($68,294.59), James Macelwain ($65,516.09), Eugene Veinotte ($62,457.23), a shell company owned by Veinotte ($62,457.23), and Mei-Ping Liang ($50,863.61).

The figures represent what each defendant extracted from the scheme. The receiver collected on all eight motions by December 23rd.

A ninth defendant, Don Fitz-Ritson, settled his case. The receiver filed a voluntary dismissal against him after he negotiated terms on his $121,773.22 take.

Of the 26 Canadians named in the litigation overall, at least three filed responses. The status of proceedings against the remaining 14 defendants remains unclear.

The receiver expanded the assault in May, seeking default judgments against 11 more top earners. On May 20th, it filed motions naming Zahid Ali ($62,571), Joel Broughton ($203,492), Jane Ferguson ($67,214), Michael Gallup ($75,630), Shao Zhang Huang ($82,924), Guo Hua Liang ($122,686), Jia Yu Wang ($71,236), Bin Xu ($298,190), Guan Jun Zhang ($140,658), Xiaomei Wang ($471,242), and Feng Guang Wu ($184,282).

The court granted default judgments on May 27th.

A separate motion against Ying Liu, filed May 28th, took longer. The court ordered default judgment against her on June 2nd for $72,401.

All told, the receiver has secured default judgments against at least 20 Canadian participants who benefited directly from the scheme while victims lost their investments.
