NewYou and the MLM Pattern That Keeps Repeating
A California husband-and-wife team is running what looks like the same playbook they've used before: launch a health company, build an MLM structure around it, and recruit distributors who buy their way in.
NewYou launched in mid-2018 selling CBD oil products through a multi-level marketing model. Ray Grimm Jr. and his wife Daran Grimm founded the company. Ray's track record suggests this isn't his first rodeo in the MLM space.
Before NewYou, Ray Grimm Jr. was President and CEO of Laguna Blends, a Canadian CBD company that emerged in 2017. He joined the company as a consultant in 2016 and climbed to the top job within a year. Under his leadership, Laguna Blends acquired Isodiol, a U.S.-based CBD competitor. The combined company's stock soared from $0.05 to over $2 per share over two years. Then Grimm Jr. vanished from Laguna Blends' public-facing marketing shortly after the company moved to prelaunch a product called My Club 8. His LinkedIn profile, dating back to 1988, makes no mention of the position. His personal website only lists him as a consultant to the company.
Daran Grimm's background reads like a textbook MLM résumé. She started as an Avon representative at 17 years old, selling to her neighborhood. She's spent three decades in direct sales, building what she describes as three multi-million dollar health and wellness brands alongside her husband. She portrays herself as a "Top Income earning distributor" and company owner.
NewYou's product lineup centers on CBD oils. The company claims its CBD is 99.7% pure, THC-free, and grown organically in the U.S.
Drops sell for $49 a bottle. The company says they add "high output USA-grown organic non-psychoactive Cannabinoids" to any beverage.
CB2, retailing at $89, contains "more than 85 different cannabinoids and terpenes" blended with avocado oil and peppermint flavoring.
Cafe Canna costs $86.25 for a box of thirty sachets. NewYou markets it as a "Cannabinoid-infused non-GMO dark roast coffee" with ingredients to "promote fast and steady weight loss naturally."
Drops FX runs $49 and combines CBD with B vitamins.
Absorb, priced at $80, uses a Japanese root that the company says can "absorb more than 200 times its weight in water."
Release sells for $48. It's billed as a "natural phytonutrient cleanse" made from clove, cascara sagrada, agave inulin, rhubarb root extract, slippery elm bark, and aloe vera.
Pet owners can buy Drops for Pets at $29 a bottle.
The products exist. The question now is whether the compensation structure pushes distributors to recruit rather than retail.
