Mark Scott, the lawyer convicted of laundering money for OneCoin, is now fighting to keep his law license.

The Miami Herald first reported that Scott has been suspended from practicing law in Florida as of last Wednesday, a move backed by a February 3rd Supreme Court order. The court gave him thirty days to wind down his practice and protect his existing clients' interests.

But Scott isn't going quietly. The Florida Bar sent him a petition requesting permanent disbarment, which he refused to sign. Instead, he's mounting a defense.

"The Bar sent me a package offering that course of action," Scott said by phone Thursday. "I'm not interested in that. I'm still fighting for my life in New York without any reason to give up."

The suspension stands while his disbarment case proceeds. A referee from the Eleventh Judicial Circuit will be appointed to hear the matter. Scott was found guilty of money laundering for the OneCoin Ponzi scheme last November and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 26th.

It's hard to imagine how Scott plans to defend his license after a $400 million money laundering conviction. The charges stemmed from his work helping OneCoin's operators move and conceal massive sums of cash extracted from investors worldwide.

Update: On March 12th, the Florida Supreme Court halted Scott's disbarment proceedings. The court stayed the case pending the outcome of his acquittal and new trial motion, which he filed in his criminal case in New York.

Update: Scott's Florida disbarment case remains suspended as of late October. But New York moved faster. The state disbarred Scott effective October 29th, stripping him of his law license there permanently.
