Lume Capital, an unregistered online platform claiming to be a cryptocurrency investment company, is promising daily returns through a multi-level marketing structure. The company’s website, lumecapitalcorp.com, was privately registered on August 13th, 2023, and offers no verifiable information about its ownership or executives.
The site displays certificates for shell companies in the UK and Montana, along with a FinCEN registration. These documents are effectively meaningless for due diligence purposes. Shell companies can be easily incorporated with fabricated details, and a FinCEN registration is an online process requiring minimal verification and does not imply regulatory oversight or licensing. Scammers often use this shell company and FinCEN registration tactic, particularly those not native to English-speaking countries. Lume Capital lists a Montana address that belongs to Regus, a virtual office provider.
Lume Capital offers no retailable products or services. Affiliates can only promote Lume Capital affiliate membership itself. The compensation structure centers on affiliates investing cryptocurrency with the promise of passive daily returns. The investment tiers range from $25 to $70,000, with promised daily returns from 1.7% to 2.3% for 140 days.
The multi-level marketing aspect of Lume Capital pays affiliates for recruiting new investors. A 9% referral commission is paid on the cryptocurrency invested by personally recruited affiliates. Residual commissions are distributed through a binary compensation plan. This structure places an affiliate at the top of a two-sided team, left and right. New recruits fill positions on these teams, and commissions are calculated based on new investment volume on the weaker side of the binary team, paid at 10%. Daily residual commission payouts are capped based on the affiliate's investment tier, ranging from $1,000 to $7,000 per day.
The lack of transparency regarding ownership and the use of easily faked corporate documents are red flags typical of Ponzi schemes. Investors should exercise extreme caution when considering platforms that do not openly disclose their leadership or operating details.
