Venezuelan authorities arrested Rosa González Rincón, also known as Rosa Buñuelos, on January 26th, 2026, in San Cristóbal. She is a key figure wanted for her role in the Generation Zoe cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme.

The Viceministerio del Sistema Integrado de Investigación Penal (VISIIP) announced Rincón’s apprehension, stating that officials from the General Directorate of International Police located her. Rincón was a member of Generation Zoe’s marketing team, reportedly responsible for devising a fraudulent cryptocurrency market prediction algorithm. This claim is demonstrably false, as the scheme’s purported trading activities were entirely fabricated.

Generation Zoe, launched in early 2021 by Argentinian national Leonardo Cositorto, collapsed in December 2021. VSIIP categorizes Cositorto and his associates as a criminal organization. The scheme defrauded victims of an estimated $100 million to $300 million. The fraud’s reach extended across Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Spain, and Mexico, impacting over 15,000 individuals. Many lost their life savings, pensions, and properties, suffering significant psychological distress after being subjected to cult-like financial promises.

Rincón’s prior career involved selling fried cakes and fritters. Following Cositorto’s arrest in April 2022, he was convicted in February 2025 and subsequently sentenced to twelve years in prison. Argentinian authorities, including the Policía Federal Argentina (PFA), were instrumental in Rincón’s capture. Their joint efforts with Venezuelan officials involved intelligence gathering, surveillance, and cyber-patrolling to pinpoint her location. Field operations confirmed the involvement of Rincón’s immediate family members, who allegedly provided her with support to evade law enforcement. Rincón faces extradition to Argentina to stand trial for her alleged involvement in the scheme.
