Bjorn Bjercke, a blockchain developer who brands himself "Mr. Bitcoin Norway," claims OneCoin never possessed a genuine blockchain. Bjercke, with 19 years in IT and a decade in finance, was approached in late 2017 by recruitment firm Asenshia about a Chief Technology Officer role at OneCoin. The offer included a compensation package that initially seemed too high, prompting his suspicion.
Asenshia, a recruiter specializing in direct selling industries, contacted Bjercke for a "C Level search." During their discussions, the recruiter detailed the position but withheld the client's name until Bjercke questioned the unusual salary. Bjercke, already familiar with OneCoin and holding the belief that it was a scam, declined the offer.
His refusal led to further conversations where Asenshia purportedly described OneCoin's backend operations. Bjercke asserted that OneCoin was not mining coins as claimed. Instead, he stated the company was using a Microsoft SQL server, employing scripts to generate new coins. The recruiter, described as non-technical, conveyed details that Bjercke interpreted as indicative of an SQL or possibly an Oracle database.
Bjercke’s assertion suggests OneCoin’s coin generation was a manufactured process, not a result of a distributed ledger system. This claim emerged after Bjercke observed OneCoin affiliates promoting the scheme online. He believes that at the time of his recruitment discussions, OneCoin lacked the fundamental technology it purported to utilize.
He stated, "They are not mining coins but they are using a MS SQL server where they have scripted coin creation." This account, if accurate, contradicts OneCoin's public narrative of operating a legitimate cryptocurrency blockchain.
