A court in Cordoba, Argentina, convicted twelve OneCoin promoters this week, handing down prison terms ranging from 3 to 9 years. The defendants, aged 44 to 73, were found guilty of involvement in the global multi-billion dollar cryptocurrency fraud scheme.
Eduardo Alejandro Taylor, 54, received the longest sentence at 9 years. Manuel Peralta Guevara, 65, and Adolfo Gustavo "Cachorro" Amuchastegui, 73, were each sentenced to 8 years in prison. Ricardo Beretta, 55, will serve 7 years.
Edgar Moreno, 55, Ariel Eduardo Morasut, 47, and Monica Gabriela Blasco, 58, each faced terms of 6 years and 11 months. Andres Matias "Gato" Lopez, 42, and Daniel "Pupi" Conaglia, 45, received sentences of 6 and a half years. Mariana Noel Lopez, 44, was given the shortest prison term at 3 years and 10 months. Aldo Javier Leguizamon, 57, and Nancy Diaz, 66, both received 3-year suspended sentences.
A thirteenth defendant, Hernan Gabriel Pizarro, 54, has appealed two rulings in his case, which remains pending before the courts.
Argentinian authorities initiated their crackdown on OneCoin promoters in 2020. Eight arrests occurred in December of that year, marking a significant step in the regional investigation. Before the recent convictions, two other promoters, Adolfo Domínguez and Aldo Leguizamón, had entered early guilty pleas. Domínguez received a sentence of 3 years and 6 months, while Leguizamón was sentenced to 4 years and 3 months.
The Cordoba Complex Crimes Unit also indicted several key figures in the broader OneCoin operation: Konstantin Ignatov, Ruja Ignatova, and José Gordo. These individuals face charges in Argentina related to their roles in the fraudulent scheme.
Konstantin Ignatov, brother of Ruja Ignatova, previously pleaded guilty to OneCoin criminal charges in the United States in 2019. He was sentenced to time served following his cooperation with US authorities. In March 2024, Ignatov publicly stated on social media that OneCoin had been "the biggest mistake of his life."
Ruja Ignatova founded OneCoin. She is wanted by US authorities and remains a high-profile fugitive, having disappeared in 2017 amid growing scrutiny of the scheme. Her whereabouts are unknown.
José Gordo was recognized as a top promoter and major earner within the OneCoin organization. He resided in Spain for a period before fleeing to Dubai as international investigations intensified. Following the arrest of Sebastian Greenwood, another key OneCoin figure, Gordo was appointed Master Distributor for Latin America and Mexico, overseeing a critical region for the scheme's expansion.
Gordo abandoned OneCoin sometime in mid to late 2019. He quickly resurfaced in October 2019 as a promoter for Apex International, a short-lived Ponzi scheme that spun off from Kuvera Global. By June 2020, Gordo had joined Beyond Wealth, which was a reboot of the Onyx Lifestyle Ponzi scheme. His involvement in serial fraudulent ventures continued, as he was last identified in 2024 in connection with the collapsed Xera Pro mega Ponzi.
Ignatov, Ignatova, and Gordo are all still considered fugitives, wanted by Argentinian authorities in connection with the OneCoin fraud.
